Also known as widow’s Coach, this escort carriage was used to transport the closest relatives to the cemetery. Widow’s car is both inside and out completely black. His presence stood out in the city streets, where you couldn’t see many hearses with suspension and a closed cabin.

Until 1965, the widow’s had a limited participation in the funerary ritual. The woman couldn’t take part in the funeral procession, neither say goodbye publicly; nor accompany the coffin to the cemetery. She had to stay home praying.

Every Friday we show you a hearse of our collection that you can visit personally in the Cemetery of Montjuïc.
