MONTJUÏC ROUTE

The Route of Montjuïc was initiated in 2008 and it goes from 1883 to 1936.
The Artistic Route try to establish similarities between art and society to explain the graves artistic, cultural and historical value. The route shows the importance of the cemetery in the city’s artistic and cultural legacy by means of a short walk.
Montjuïc Cemetery reflects Barcelona; it mourns the loss of its heroes and the anonimous citizens since they were and still are part of the city. Barcelona builds monuments in the Montjuïc Cemetery to remember historical events and these pieces of art which are private and public at the same time reveal Barcelona’s dreams.
There is a third route called the COMBINED ROUTE (which takes place on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of every month). It includes 37 graves and it is conceived as a sample of the cemetery’s cultural heritage. It combines interesting historical and artistic graves which are already included in the main routes.
